Keep Calm and Carry On

You’ve seen the poster. The one that simply says “Keep Calm and Carry On” and has a graphic of a crown. It’s on Pinterest. It’s in your friend’s home. It’s probably even in your home. It’s everywhere these days. Want to know the best thing about it? It was designed over 70 years ago! The simple, clean, contemporary design and beautiful type face would have you believe a graphic designer created it in the last year. But that’s not the case. This poster has a very fasicinating story linking it to World War Two. This video, done by Temujin Doran is very well done and gives a quick background on this gem of a poster:

I love stories like this! History has always fasicinated me, but I particularly love this because it involves an icon that has become so popular is design. The video touches on this, but to me it’s timeless design and message are brillant and I love the way they trascend time. Who would have thought a war propaganda poster created over 70 years ago would become such a big hit decades later in homes across the world? I LOVE it.
