Adoration House + Ancient Gate Coffee
Scope: Design and furnish the build-out of a coffee shop, 4 restrooms, a large prayer room, a co-working space with a small kitchenette, and private offices.
Our Design Process
Located in the heart of Seattle’s University District, just steps from the University of Washington, this mixed-use commercial project was designed with one central purpose: to foster community. Every square foot, whether sacred, social, or shared, was intentionally crafted to invite people in, slow them down, and create space for meaningful connection.
At the core of the project is Adoration House, a public prayer room open to all. It offers a rare quiet in the middle of the city: a place for corporate prayer and worship, stillness, and reflection. Designed with minimalist reverence, the room’s palette, lighting, and furnishings evoke calm and sacred focus, encouraging spiritual encounter without distraction. The architecture honors the beauty of simplicity, allowing the sacredness of prayer and connection to God to take center stage.
Adjacent to the prayer room is Ancient Gate, a specialty coffee shop that extends the same ethos of welcome and connection. With warm, earthy tones, brass lighting, and a softly glowing ambience, the café invites guests to linger, whether meeting a friend, studying solo, or striking up a new conversation. Curved countertops, booth and banquette seating, and an open kitchen layout were all intentional design decisions aimed at fostering interaction and ease. The space is both refined and approachable—a place you’d want to stay awhile.
Above it all, the second floor features a co-working studio that serves as a home base for the Adoration House team and a collaborative hub for local churches and ministries. Designed for flexibility and inspiration, it offers a mix of shared desks, soft seating, and quiet corners, supporting both focused work and relational connection across the diverse Christian landscape of Seattle.
Together, these spaces form a cohesive environment rooted in hospitality, worship, and belonging. Adoration House + Ancient Gate is more than a building; it’s a living expression of what happens when intentional design meets a desire to see people known, gathered, and transformed.
